When can you have sex after birth? UK

Ive googled it and some places say 6 weeks but nhs website says there isn’t a specific amount of time to wait. I’ve also had mixed answers from health care professionals. What were you advised? Or when did you decide the time was right?

6 weeks regardless of vaginal, C-section, tearing, or when the bleeding stops. 
Nothing inside the vagina for 6 weeks. No hot tubs. 
There’s a dinner plate sized wound inside you that has to heal. There’s no way to check if it’s fully healed in a regular check or at home. 6 weeks has been determined the average time it takes to fully heal and reduce the risk of infection. The infection you can get from putting a foreign object up there with an open wound is serious and can be deadly. Days in the hospital without your baby.

As there is a huge risk for infection it is very very wise to wait 6wks. You have a dinner plate size wound on your uterus where the placenta detached. That wound needs time to heal. The first 3wks is when you are highly susceptible to infection. 
Take care of yourself. Don’t risk infection or getting pregnant again (which is dangerous so soon after delivery) for just a bit of pleasure that may not even be pleasurable.

I'm in the US, but my midwife cleared me at 3 weeks. My stitches were healed and my bleeding and spotting were completely done before 2 weeks postpartum. She told me that as long as my bleeding was completely over there is next to none risk of infection. You're going to get a ton of comments from US women on here about 6 weeks though, so be prepared lol. If you had stitches I would make sure they are dissolved and the area is healed, and make sure your bleeding and spotting are completely gone for a few days before having sex. Remember to use protection if you don't want to get pregnant again so soon!

I'm getting so bored of bleeding... it's been over 3 weeks now and most women on here seem to have finished AGES ago, my midwife said after bleeding stops, but ideally closer to 6 weeks...

I asked at my one week PP appointment and my doc said that when I felt like it it would be alright since the body knows when it can do things. What she said was that unless everything was healed and alright the body wouldn’t produce the chemical reaction of being aroused and wanting sed so when I felt like it I would be fine. We did it at 2 weeks and I had absolutely no problems or pains
