Do you homeschool your autistic child?

My son recently was diagnosed as high functioning autistic. He has struggled in public school for the past few years but we just had a conference yesterday following his diagnosis. I am honestly leaning towards homeschooling because the school’s only suggestion was more medication on top of what he just started for anxiety and I’m not ready to put more medication on him when he only started a month ago. He is 9. I’m wondering if anyone else homeschools because if all they are going to do is suggest more medication and not work more with him, then I will probably be pulling him after Christmas break.

I will homeschool all of my children no matter what so yes, I'd homeschool a child with autism as well, especially if the school is pressuring you to put him on medication I'd choose homeschooling.

I work in a public school. A public school cannot ask  parents to medicate their child, to my knowledge. They are required to provide FAPE (free and appropriate public education) to all students. You should be meeting to discuss his specific difficulties, and looking at ways to support your child. Medication is a choice parent’s make in concert with their child’s doctor, not school staff. What is the school offering in terms of support?

I would try to change schools. I would not homeschool, however, it isn't appropriate to tell you to medicate your child.
