My boss wants to change my title to make a man feel more comfortable.

I’ve worked for this company for a year as a manager and have excellent rapport with my boss. Because I am a student, I can only work 4 days a week during the holiday season, so they hired on a co manager to support my location.

I received a call from my boss today and she explained that my co-manager (who is a brand new hire) thought he would be the only manager. She basically said he has a male ego and would be more comfortable if he could be the manager and I would be the assistant manager, rather than co-managers. She explained that i might need to temporarily change my title and that our roles and responsibilities and pay would remain the same. I was really thrown off as I have experience and loyalty to the company. I see both pros and cons to this situation. For example, for a pro, if I am dealing with a Karen or a difficult position, as an assistant manager, I could deflect it to him. As a con, I don’t believe I should change my title to make someone else more comfortable.

My boss said she supports me and is open to talking more. I want to suggest that on days when I am not at work, that my co-manager is the acting manager, and vice versa, and then when we both have a shift, we can work as co-managers as it was supposed to be.

Thoughts/advice??
