Thanksgiving

We’re doing our first thanksgiving dinner on our own this year and I have no idea how to cook any of it or what to even make. Any advice or ideas would be helpful 😩😂

pinterest girl!!! so many fool proof recipes! but definitely get a turkey asap!! mac n cheese, deviled eggs, casseroles(green bean/funeral potatoes are a huge hit for us) yams, mash potatoes, dressing/stuffing, some kind of greens or veggie, cranberry sauce, rolls, desert and beverages everyone likes! and some wine for you mama cause hosting us stressful! side note: if y’all make funeral potatoes(well any casserole tbh) instead of the cereal or bread crumbs on top uses frenchs fries onions... GAME CHANGERRRR

You can always ask people to bring food (like the pie) so it's less work for you. If you're doing a frozen turkey, you'll need to buy it soon because it takes days to defrost. Otherwise, you've got time to look up recipes and decide what to you.And be aware of how much oven space you have. You likely won't be able to have the turkey, potatoes, Stuffing, pie, and everything else in the oven all at once so staggering when you cook everything is key. Things like the pie or mashed potatoes I recommend cooking the night before if possible so you're not trying to do everything in the same day.

My only advice would be to practice making each food item one by one, but Thanksgiving is next week. 🙃 Maybe you can look up easy/beginner cook recipes? I wish my suggestion was more helpful, but be kind to yourself. Remember it’s your first time and best of luck to you!

How many people are you feeding?

I would make it as easy as possible. You can buy pre-cooked turkeys. Keep the sides simple. A vegetable or two, a starch, and a dessert. Perhaps stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and pie? Pre-made is OK. All recipes are available online.

About 7-10. Maybe more. There’s 5 in my home. But there may be a couple others that will want to come. I’m not entirely sure yet.

Our go-to veg for Thanksgiving is a carrot and rutabaga (or turnip) mash. Just peel, chop, boil, drain, add a bit of butter (and brown sugar if you like it sweet) and mash. Can be done the day before too.Mashed potatoes are good too. You can do instant if you want or boil and mash fresh ones. I use waxy potatoes and don't even bother peeling them.

Hope you already have a turkey defrosting if you need a big one 😬 I would just stick to simple recipes & don’t try to do anything extravagant. Max and cheese, corn casserole, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls
