What’s your opinion on the owlet sock?

What’s your opinion on the owlet sock? Does it really help prevent SIDS? Does anyone have experience with it alerting an emergency? Does it give a false peace of mind?

It literally saved my oldest's life so I am in love with the Owlet sock! Our oldest was born in perfect health. Absolutely nothing wrong with her. At 2 weeks old she was sleeping in her bassinet next to our bed and I got up to go pee before turning out the light. I decided to check on her before I went to bed and noticed she was pale. At first I didn't think anything of it and went to get into bed, but it didn't feel right. I took a good hard look at her and saw that she wasn't breathing and was turning blue. My husband got her out of the swaddle and we worked hard to get her to wake up and breathe. We were about to finally get her to breathe and she started screaming and color came back to her skin after a couple of minutes. We took her to the hospital and we were told she had a BRUE. If I didn't act as quickly as I did she would have been gone from SIDS. Her O2 kept plummeting when she would sleep. Not reason for it, she would just forget to breathe. 
We got the Owlet sock and it would notify us when her O2 would get too low and we would need to wake her. She has also always loved to sleep on her belly. Unfortunately that caused her to face straight down a few times when she would roll over and she would start to suffocate. The Owlet let us know. She also frequently had high fevers from her allergic reactions, we weren't aware at the time that she was allergic to milk and eggs, and her heart rate would rise to dangerous levels from the fever spikes and we would need to rush her to the hospital because medicine wouldn't work. The Owlet sock literally saved my oldest's life several times and I can't recommend it enough. 
We used it for our youngest as well. We still have it, but only use it if one of them is sick now. When all of those events happened someone always reached out to check on our baby girl to see if it was a false alarm or if she was okay. When hearing about what happened we were always comforted and supported.

Everyone is different. My husband and I would not have been able to sleep through the nights without it. My son had an older version and we never had false alarms, but occasionally it would notify us it needed to be repositioned…However, when he was 4 months his fever spiked so high in his sleep (after a vaccination) that his heart rate actually went over 220 and the Owlet alarm went off. He was sound asleep. I would not have been aware of his incredibly high fever otherwise. We rushed to the ER to get his temperature down.
My daughter has a newer version and it stays in place much better so we don’t get any notifications about placement. She‘s had Covid and croup and it helped me to be able to see her oxygen was still good both times. She just recovered from a virus with 104.9 fever. She was sick for 5 days and I am so aware of her resting heart rate I use the Owlet when she’s sick to determine when she needs to be woken up for meds…I know around 120 she may have a low grade…130-140 is definitely a fever and 160-190 is a high fever. It is not intended for that obviously, but it has made our lives so much easier and gives me peace of mind while she’s sleeping. Fevers spike at night when cortisol drops and she sleeps through high fevers just like her brother.
My husband and I always said we hoped to never get our moneys worth, but if anything happened it would be worth more than what we paid and it’s the truth. We sleep peacefully at night knowing we will be alarmed to serious situations.

It’s not going to prevent SIDS. But it did give me a lot of peace of mind (I had a lot of anxiety around sleep!). 
That being said I know some people who had more anxiety with the owlet because of false alarms. I think we only had 2 or 3 false alarms in the year of using it, and I knew immediately they were false alarms because of the fit of the sock.  It for some that’s not worth it. 
So basically I wouldn’t recommend for everyone but personally I loved it.

Love ours. Got it in early 2020 when baby boy started rolling over in his crib and sleeping on his face. Got some positioning "alarms", but no false ones. Now using it with baby girl. Gave me so much peace of mind while she was battling RSV at home at 3 months old. I don't know if I would have slept for the two peak nights. Gave me good solid feedback to give to her pediatrician during our sick visits, and I was able to really see when she was getting better. I am so glad to have it this sick season because I'm sure my 3 yr old will be bringing lots home to the baby from daycare.

I don’t have one but I know they have changed them, they don’t alert you anymore if something goes out of range. I considered getting one of the older versions on eBay for my daughter but according to the seller of one I looked at, the app is also different so the old ones don’t work.

I had postpartum anxiety really bad and then my son got a cold when he was 9 days old and I had barely slept since before I went into labor. I bought it out of desperation at 3 am for me it was worth it so I could finally sleep

It’s not a replacement for safe sleep but it gave me peace of mind when I had anxiety so bad I couldn’t sleep. We only got here false alarms when the sock was misplaced. We used it for 15 months and I plan on using it again with my new baby.

I love it my daughter is 8 months old and I've been using it every night I trust it and it gives me peace of mind

My baby was prem and would have frequent colour changes. This allowed me to sleep. It was a god send xx
