Income tax

Is there anyone else in this group with doordash as their only source of income?? If so, can I file taxes if I’m a dasher? I was told I would have to file a 1099 and would have to PAY taxes instead of getting taxes back.. how true is that? I have two children and would like to file next year! 😩
