Is it okay to put filters on babies and young children that are purely intended to make people look more aesthetically pleasing? (i.e. face and nose slimming, not filters that are fun or silly)

It seems like a lot of people in my previous post thought I was referring to silly or fun filters like Spiderman, beards, etc. Not talking about those, just ones that make people look like they've had plastic surgery to attain society's beauty standards.

Idk I don't even like them for myself. I would be sad to look back and see that most of my pictures were altered in some way.

I think it’s weird and could affect the childs self-esteem when they look back on those photos to see that their parents thought it was appropriate to digitally enhance their face in every photo.￼ I think it’s different if you’re adding a fun filter, some people do that to actually hide their child’s identity. That’s fine. But to add a beauty filter… not cool. ￼

Personally I say no. I think it’s overall harmless from the parent’s perspective but personally I would not do this to my children purely because I feel like it could set them up for insecurity and/or dissatisfaction with how they look as they get older. I also don’t use filters on myself for the same reason- I start wishing I looked like the filter rather than like myself! And that ain’t healthy all the way around!

For more context, my MIL used a filter like this on our one year old son and then got mad when we asked her not to. We think our son looks perfect how he is and don't want him to grow up seeing photos of himself with an unnatural face. For all the people wondering why it matters, just trying to understand how other parents feel about this topic.

I don’t use filters but I used to do photography and when I take photos of my kids I adjust exposure and sharpening and the temperature of photos to give a softer look or smooth out rough edges. I think if a filter does that for a photo there isn’t anything wrong with that but filters that actually change the face freak me out.

No, but sometimes I will use a fliter if I’m taking a picture of us and I just woke up or something so it’s for me not my kid lol. Just for my Snapchat story or something silly, not like a keepsake picture or anything

I edit some of my kids photos it's like having a professional photo done they will edit and put filters on the pictures so if your taking professional photos they are still editing the photo
