I had a Pomeranian and chihuahua mix, and she was my absolute best friend from middle school to when I was 26.

We had a golden retriever until he passed a couple years ago. Would get another in a heart beat. Had him before kids - had my first kid when he was about 2 and my second when he was 11. Both as a younger and an older dog, his temperament was so great with the babies/kids at both stages. They’re so smart and real family dogs, but do really love attention and can be energetic. Be prepared to pick up a lot of hair and invest in a good vacuum (only downside to the breed IMO).

It doesn't matter what breed. It matters how the dog was raised and the temperment. The younger the dog the better. It can be trained.
