How do you differentiate uti and cystitis?

Well that would have to be diagnosed by urologist. IC is really difficult to get diagnosed if you don't see a good urologist and sometimes they need to do a scope inside of your bladder. But if you are constantly having symptoms that seem like a UTI but you're not showing much infection and your urinalysis test at the doctor and you're having a lot of pain it's very likely you could have IC but you definitely need to be seeing a urologist because only they can diagnose it and they can help you pinpoint the difference between I see and regular uti.
I will say from experience IC pain is much worse than a UTI. It's not so much in the urinary tract but more in the bladder and urination is very painful. Antibiotics usually won't help symptoms since IC is lesions inside of the bladder not an infection in the urinary tract. Before I was diagnosed I was continuously treated for UTIs and after 3 months of being on antibiotics and symptoms only getting worse that's when the urologist realize that it was not an infection and I was actually on antibiotics for way too long and they weren't helping anything. If you do believe you have IC you really need to watch your diet and stay away from acidic foods and drinks because they will make the lining of your bladder so much worse.
