The classic, “I told you so”…should I be upset?
A friend of mine died last week of terminal illness. They had a few months to live and my mom kept telling me to go visit. I kept in contact with said friend and was planning a surprise visit in the coming weeks, but ultimately it was too late and I never had the chance to formally say my goodbyes in-person. I’m now heartbroken that I missed the opportunity and what’s worse, I didn’t say what I wanted to because I was planning to go see them. Anyway, I tried talking to my mom about this huge regret of mine and all she could afford to tell me is “I warned you. I told you so…” with a literal wagging of the finger. Should I be upset with my mother for her pragmatic attitude and tone deafness while I’m still mourning, or should I accept my ill-fated timing and misjudgement and let it go?
