Does anyone else have kids that don’t like books or reading?

My 4 year old and 2 year old have zero interest in looking at books or being read to. They will not do it no matter how hard I try lol. It’s ironic… because I’m an author. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Yes. My 2 year old has always taken the book out of my hands anytime I try to read him a book. Even if he’s asked me to read it. 😅🤷🏼‍♀️ I enjoy reading and remember my mom reading to me so I’m hoping he grows out of it.

I swear with some kids it’s like the more you love something the harder they try to ignore it exists. They might come around in kindergarten when their teachers are as excited about books as you are. My first is in kindergarten and she’s been reeeeeally into books since her teacher explained with reading they can do so much like books, menus, road signs… idk why she didn’t believe me for the past 6 years 😆

I would just keep reading to them and exposing them to books. My daughter was kind of like this until around the end of kindergarten. Suddenly at the end of kindergarten, she picked up a book and started trying to sound it out and has not put books down since. She is almost 9 and absolutely loves to read now.￼

Funny, I have relatives with a similar story. Both parents are teachers actually, and both their kids HATE reading lol. They are really smart kids and are into all sorts of other learning activities but reading just isn’t one!

Do you still read to them while they play?? Do you just talk about the book and not read it (this is the cover, this is the author…etc)? Do you ever put on videos of someone reading a book to them? 
Do you have the indestructible books that they can twist, rip, crinkle, spill on…etc? 
Do you offer a variety of styles? 
Mo willems expressive stories or comic books or picture only

I personally didn't like books till about mid primary school (about 9 years of age) and now I am book obsessed. I love to read and write.
