Dark red on and off bleeding at 4 weeks. Is this normal?

Second pregnancy, I’ve never experienced bleeding this early on and I’m trying to stay calm. It’s enough to use a small panty liner but it’s dark red/brownish.

Bleeding can happen, and is common but it's not usual. You should call your doctor for sure. 
I wouldn't suggest an ER unless the bleeding gets heavier than a pad in an hour. Or you're in unbearable pain. The ER can't do anything for you even if it's worst case scenario of a miscarriage unfortunately.

All is well! I am 8 weeks and 6 days now. Bleeding stopped about a week after I posted and no cramping.
