14 month old not talking or doing gestures

Madilyn

My son is 14 months old, we don’t have his 15 month appointment until the end of January.

At his year appointment, everything seemed fine, no concerns from doctor. I’m starting to worry because I see so many kids younger than him talking way more and doing just more in general. He isn’t walking yet but can stand independently and gets around the house creeping or crawling. He can clap and wave but that’s it. I have tried everything to get him to repeat me or say words but it’s like he doesn’t listen or doesn’t understand to make sounds back. I’ve tried Ms Rachael too and he just laughs and smiles at her but doesn’t do anything she does besides clap and wave. I try to talk to him as much as I can and say what we are doing. “Did you poop? Let’s change your diaper. Want a bottle? Ba? Milk? Let’s make a bottle. Here’s your bottle. Is this a ball? Ball! Give mommy the ball.” I feel like I’m failing for some reason because he just won’t talk. He was never much of a babbler, even now he barely babbles. Occasionally he will babble mamamama but that’s it.

I feel like he’s so smart in other ways, he really concentrated on his toys and figures out how they work really fast. He has a ply kitchen and knows how to put food in the fridge and in the pots and pans. He can flip through a book. He can push a car around the house. Puts his blocks in the container, pushes the buttons correctly. It’s really just a disconnect with his speech and I don’t know if he understands anything when I talk to him or if he just doesn’t know how to talk yet. We don’t do day care and there are no other children around him so that may be a reason. I’ve also noticed that when he’s teething (which he has been a lot, he has like 11 teeth) he slows down or even regresses on stuff during that period. I'm just overly worried. :(
