Washing new bedding

I was having a conversation with a friend and she mentioned that new duvets should be washed before use.. I do wash new sheets and duvet covers before using them but not duvets and pillows. I am curious do you guys wash/steam/clean new duvets and pillows?

Edit: Also what about mattresses and mattress toppers??? They also come packaged.
