Am I pregnant?

Question

So I had unprotected sex on the last day of my ovulation cycle. I am now five days late and I have taken two pregnancy test. (Keep in mind I have never been more then one day late in my life.) One test on the first day and another on the third, both negative. Any ideas?

How did you track and confirm ovulation? If pregnancy tests are negative and period is “late” it is usually due to late ovulation or no ovulation. The later you ovulate the later your cycle will be. If your tests are negative you are not pregnant as of this moment.

Either you missed your window and you’re not pregnant. (After you release an egg, you have roughly 12-24 hours to conceive and then after that egg has disintegrated there’s no chance of pregnancy until you ovulate again the following month) OR you ovulated later than you were expecting too, which could result in a pregnancy. Semen can survive inside you for up to 3-5 days if the conditions are just right - so if you were to have ovulated the day of or even a few days after you had unprotected sex, it’s possible you’re pregnant but your HCG levels aren’t yet concentrated enough for a HPT to detect it. I would take another test. And if it’s still negative and you don’t get your period in a few more days, I’d take another and/or schedule a blood test. Even if it’s positive, I’d schedule a blood test just to confirm it. 
With my first - I wasn’t trying to get pregnant. I had a weird period and thought maybe it was implantation bleeding so I took a test 4 days after my period ended. It was negative. About a week later I took another. Again, negative. Both tests were traditional Clear Blue tests. And then about 6 days from my next period I took the final test, which was digital and it was positive. I took about a million more - all different brands, Equate, First Response, digital, traditional. They all were positive. But the traditional tests were light so I was in denial and thought the digital test was wrong lol so I scheduled blood work to make sure I truly was pregnant before moving forward, and blood work confirmed I was indeed pregnant. With my second, I was 3 days late. Which wasn’t alarming for me. My period is sometimes later than expected. But I felt car sick for seemingly no reason and that was a pregnancy symptom I experienced with my first pregnancy, and sure enough, I was pregnant again. There were two solid lines - no mistaking it. So I didn’t bother with blood work that time. Especially since I had been keeping track of when I was having sex (still wasn’t ttc though) and I had unprotected sex the day before I was expected to ovulate - so knowing that in conjunction with a late period and car sickness, I had a gut feeling I was pregnant and I was right.
