I took the medicine this morning on an empty stomach and vomited stomach bile 30 minutes later.

Oh yes. I was having to take it for extended periods of time due to idiopathic granulomatous mastitis, and if I took it before I ate, I was SO sick. I made sure to eat, wait at least 10 minutes, then take the doxy.

If you're taking a higher dose of 100mg or more for other types of infection, you can take it with or without food. But you're less likely to feel sick if you have it with food. Try and take it while you're in an upright position. You can be sitting, standing or walking. This stops the medicine irritating your food pipe or stomach.
