Baby boy name Wren?

Question

I have loved the name Wren since our first baby boy and we didnt name him that. Now we are pregnant with our second boy and I cant get the name out of my head. But my husband and his mother laugh at it and say all people will this of is the cartoon "Ren and Stimpy". I dont think of that at all- it wasnt something I watched. A Wren to me is a nice Welsh name and also is a type of bird. But at the end of the day my husband said I can name him that if I really want to. (He technically named the first)
Does anyone else have that connotation to the name Wren as the stupid cartoon or is it just my husband and his mother?

US based here! I wouldn’t think of Ren and Stimpy, but I think most people would consider it a “girl” name. I looked at the Social Security baby names website and it was the 251st most popular girl name in 2021 (and increasing every year), but it’s never been the top 1000 for boys. Just throwing it out there. 🙂

I wouldn't think of the show. And I'm pretty sure most kids he would go to school with would even know that show. I asked my 15 year old would it make her think of the show and she had no clue what I was talking about. I think it's a lovely name. I'm in the US and I've only ever heard it as a girl's name. So I'm sure you'd have more people comment that then about the show.

I would have never thought of the cartoon. The name reminds me of the bird, I think it’s a beautiful  name! Having said that I am from the UK and maybe it’s just here but I’ve always known it as more of a girls name

I disagree with everyone saying it’s more of a girls name. It’s definitely gender neutral. I actually know more guys named Wren than girls.

I have a child named Wren, and in five years have only heard one person make a ren and stimpy comment. 
Also another vote for definitely unisex. I’ve know two boys, one girl.

Just your husband and mother. I never thought of that until your post. I absolutely love Wren and think you should definitely name your son Wren. It’s a fabulous name and great for a boy.

My sister got custody of a little baby boy named Wren. It's definitely odd for all of us, and she plans on changing his name once adoption is completed. I definitely see it more as a girl name since we have a niece with Wren as her middle name.
