Strep/antibiotics ?

My 6yo tested positive for strep on Friday. She went back to school Tuesday. We only treated her bc her class mate had it, my daughter is asymptomatic, no fever had mild sore throat on Friday, was fine the next day… The doc called now (Saturday night) saying she needs antibiotics amoxicillin for 10 days!!!! I’m not a fan of antibiotics-should I give her? Again she’s got no symptoms. Ty

Yes, she NEEDS the antibiotics. If it goes untreated she could have severe complications, scarlett fever, or death. It’s not something to play around with because you don’t like them. Some illnesses NEED antibiotics.

Yes, strep can cause complications if not treated. I had a friend in high school become permanently paralyzed from the waist down due to an untreated strep infection. Rare but it happens.

Take the antibiotics. I have a sibling who developed kidney problems bc of untreated strep

Our school doesn’t want kids back until they’ve had antibiotics AND been fever free without a fever reducer for 24 hours. Without antibiotics, your child could be spreading strep for 2-3 weeks. Your child might not feel particularly ill, but the kids she infects  oils get really sick.

She might be asymptomatic,  but she still has strep that needs to be treated. Strep can cause so many medical issues if left untreated, some deadly. Please give her her antibiotics

When left untreated, strep throat can lead to complications such as acute glomerulonephritis (kidney disease).
Another complication is rheumatic fever, which will need antibiotics from now up until she's an adult, or forever if she develops heart complications from the disease.
Giving the 10 days antibiotics now is nothing compared to the hospitalization and suffering it may cause later.

I’d say do the antibiotics. 
True strep can resolve on its own, but there are also other complications that can happen such as PANDAS, kidney issues, rheumatic fever, and scarlet fever. 
I’m more natural minded in treating my kids, we tend to steer clear of most conventional meds in favor of holistic treatments. But in certain situations we do opt for antibiotics for certain bacterial infections. 
Give a good probiotic along with the antibiotic. ❤️

Yes make sure you give the full 10 days. You can give her some probiotics while on the antibiotic. I’m not a fan of antibiotics either
