So I am 24 years old. When I was younger, my mom remarried and decided to have her new husband adopt us and we took his last name as well as his name going on our birth certificate. With this, my real dad had to deal with my mom doing this because she made up an excuse about insurance so that she could do it. Well she is no longer married to that man and they got divorced a few years after that process. WELL I’ve gone to social security a few times to get a new social (once when I got married and just the other day bc I got divorced) and both times I had to give them my “adopted” dad’s name. Can I change this?? He is not in my life and hasn’t been since my mom divorced him over 10 years ago. I want my dad’s name back on my birth certificate and back into the system.
