When to test ovulation

Question

When do you guys start taking ovulation tests? I have a tracker but I’m not entirely sure it’s accurate. Should I start testing around the time it says I ovulate or should I test sooner? Also when do I know it’s peak ovulation? Is it when it’s as dark as the control line? Thank you! I have only been tracking from my app until this point.

Hi! I just wanted to add on to what the precious ladies said… depending on how long your cycle is sometimes you may ovulate after cycle day 18 — so for the first couple months of tracking, I’d say start at cycle day 7 and continue taking them until you get your peak! 
For instance my last few cycles have been a consistent 28 days but this last one I ovulated later than I have in my previous cycles. Good luck to you! 🤎

Hey girl! For my first baby I was TTC for 18 months. Currently TTC for my second and it's been 9 months so far. I work closely with my doctors and we have discussed testing for ovulation morning and night from CD8 to CD16. Make sure you read your tests when it says to. Mine is after 5 minutes. Don't read earlier or later. And then I use this app and Premom to help decifer them.

If your question is what time of day, you can test any time with ovulation strips. It will be positive when the line is darker or as dark as the control line.

Usually you would start using opks around CD8-CD10 depending on the average length of your cycle. Ensure you are testing multiple times a day to catch surge. A positive opk is when the test line is AS dark OR darker than the control line. That’s your peak. Opks only detect a surge in LH, they don’t confirm ovulation. You would want to be temping (BBT) to actually confirm ovulation. You usually ovulate 12-48 hours after surge, but a surge doesn’t guarantee ovulation will occur.
