Should I test???

Question

So currently my period is 17 days, I was diagnosed with PCOS probably a little over a year and I’ve been taking metformin ever since. Before the metformin my period was very irregular but ever since I’ve started it I’ve gotten a period every month. I feel like I should test but I just don’t wanna be sad again if it comes out negative. What do you guys think, should I test or just wait to see if my period starts next month.

So with PCOS (or any cycle really) it’s really important to track ovulation to know when you’re truly late for your period. You’re only late when you know your date of ovulation and you’re past your normal luteal phase length. It’s common in PCOS to ovulate at different times every cycle which is what makes it so darn tricky to conceive (amongst other reasons). But I see you have still been having sex, so since you don’t know your ovulation date your next best Indicator for when to test is when you last had sex. A pregnancy test will be accurate 14 days after last unprotected sex and definitive 21 days after. Not knowing your ovulation date and having sex throughout this time means you could still get a positive test, so you could take one at any point really!
