Postpartum weightloss

Hey ladies,

So a brief rundown. I used to be really tiny. I’m Australian, so everything is in kilograms, but essentially I am 5’6/5’7 height and I used to weight between 55kg - 58kg, until I started putting on unexpected weight. Honestly, I thought it was relating to the covid lockdowns.. anyways..

Before my husband and I began trying for a baby, I went to get some scans and tests to make sure all was healthy and happy internally and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so I connected the dots to that weight gain.

By the time I had fallen pregnant I was at a starting weight of 65kg. I was medicated for the thyroid situation, but gained weight rapidly through the first trimester and put on 7kgs.

All in all, with extreme amounts of swelling, by the end of the pregnancy, even with a managed thyroid, I ended up being almost 90kg.

First week PP I literally shed 10kgs - the swelling basically evaporated (thank God) and of course, my wonderful little babe and all the goodies that grew him also took out some of that weight too.

I’m about 6 months PP now, and since then have lost another 10kg, so I’m down to about 70kg, but I am just really struggling.

My intentions are to have another baby and my husband and I will start trying towards the end of the year (this time it will be much better managed) and I no longer have the issue of this hypothyroidism but I would really love to knock off more of this weight beforehand so I’m not at a higher starting point again.

It’s just so hard for this weight to budge?

I am still quite active and eat well - I always did. I cannot believe the difference this pregnancy has had on my body.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
