Is this a form of abuse?

After fights, this person will drink until drunk or take a bunch of pills and then call crying saying they’re messed up but did it on purpose…. Is this abuse? Is there a name for this? What does it mean when someone does this…. Aside from a very big red flag. Actually asking for a friend.

Psychological abuse for sure mixed with emotional manipulation, what a winner that one is 🙄 Next time, have your friend call their bluff and just have a wellness check made on the person taking a bunch of pills. That usually gets them to stop

Yes, my mom was in such a relationship. Really ruined her self worth, being blamed for this losers issues. She hasn't dated since him, and he died from a major heart attack about a year after they broke up. His body just couldn't take the drinking, smoking and pill popping.

Yes it's them falling apart so youll rescue them. It's highly manipulative. My ex threatened suicide when I broke up with him. I offered to call mobile crisis or have his brother go help him and said I cannot be the one who helps you through this. Saying I will regret it when hes dead and Im heartless....just reiterate "I do care which is why Im willing to call someone who can best help you". That stopped it.
