Do you have insurance for your pet(s) for the vet? Do you think it’s worth it? What company is it through and how much do you pay?

I have insurance for my older cat and it has its pros and cons. I wish I got it when I first got him. He has recurring skin and tummy issues,and since he had them before I got pet insurance for him, they won’t cover anything with his skin or tummy. I spent over 5k on his vet bills last year, and they didn’t cover any of it. The vet even thinks he probably has skin cancer, but since his quality of life is still high and insurance wouldn’t cover treatment, she said there’s really no benefit to doing a biopsy. If I had gotten him insurance when I first got him, all of this would be covered.

I should have it but I unfortunately can not even afford health insurance for myself 😅🙃 it is worth it and can def end up paying for itself! My friend’s dog had to have a major eye surgery and it cut the cost dramatically for her. It’s worth looking into. She got hers through progressive - if you already have home/auto you can always check if they offer pet as well and do a bundled deal

My company offers pet insurance so I took it for both of my dogs. It’s like $5/pay check. I haven’t had to use it but I’m sure if we needed to, it would be worth it.

I’ve been told that it can be helpful with unexpected bills . I’m planning on getting it once my insurance renews . They have pet insurance in most insurance companies .

Yes and it’s worth it if you have emergencies or unforeseen expenses. We use PetsBest, but I had Nationwide before. 
Nationwide is a completely scam. Avoid them all together.

I’ve looked into it and for us it wasn’t worth it. We have a pit bull that is on daily allergy meds. The cost was way too much for what you get. Most do not cover annual visits and vaccinations and most don’t cover the cost of medications until deductible is met which is at least $1000 and even then at only 70-90%. We would be paying more for the pet insurance than we would for her medication. If you are worried about emergencies make your own pet emergency fund with whatever you are comfortable paying for pet insurance, put into a special savings.

I used to have it for my two dogs. It was 40 per month for each and I held it on them for about 5 years. My younger dog was attacked once and I used the insurance and saved 800. But after doing the math, if I had put the 80 into an account over the five years it would’ve had 4800. I used Pets Best.
