Age difference

Does age difference really mean that much? I’m almost 26 and he just turned 37. This is something new to both of us and not many people know of us yet, but for some reason I’m afraid people are going to make horrible remarks due to the age. My dad for instance is going to freak. But I don’t see a big issue with it as long as we make each other happy. When we’re together, I don’t notice an age gap between us because we’re both mature. If you’ve been in this situation, how did you handle it?
