How to make an apartment cozy?

I have dark hardwood floors and I just never feel at home it doesn’t feel cozy. I also don’t have a lot of money to spend on furniture and decor so I’m not sure what to do to make it more cozy any tips ?

2nd stores and deals/discounts that a local store has going on. Maybe drcorate with an accent rug that was a warm color palette or more neutral

Lighting and soft textiles will go the furthest. Look at second hand and thrift stores for lamps and other sources of secondary light. Soft wall decor, pillows and blankets are fairly cheap. You can also look on Facebook marketplace for cheap stuff. Five Below also has some decent stuff. Even the dollar store has decent little stuff.
