Are your babies talking?

I know that someone posted a while back asking if our babies were talking yet. Mine only says a handful of words such as: mama, dada, Mimi, (our dog and cat name or at least tries). She signs: milk, more, all done, please, thank you. She points and grunts at what she wants when getting our attention. She understands everything we say and even mimics our actions. I just don’t know why she isn’t saying more words. Anyone in the same boat?

That's a great range of words. Animal sounds also count toward their word count. My babe says pretty much all of what yours says currently. There is a big language explosion that happens around 18-24M. My older 3 girls have all been at this same point and age too and were saying over 100 words by the time they reached 2. I'm not worried.

Our November babe is talking a whole lot more than her sister was at her age. Unfortunately she kind of whispers when she talks so a lot of what she says goes unheard. She says up, mama, dada, go, open it, cup, apple, no, I poop, (which really she just means she wants a daiper on her baby), yum, gummy, uh-oh, more, food, and more. She also signs a few words. The only thing I'm doing differently with my youngest than my oldest is that my youngest hears talking ALL THE TIME. I was really quiet with my oldest and didn't know how to talk to her, plus I was also pregnant and had HG so every time I opened my mouth I vomited. My youngest has just picked it up a lot more, but she JUST started walking. My oldest was walking at 15 months, but not talking this much until about 26 months old. She preferred to sign. Each baby is unique.

My baby boy is the same way. He signs more than he says but is definitely babbling more and more every day. Sometimes I think I hear him saying phrases but I’m not sure. Don’t worry though, once they start talking they won’t stop and you’ll wish for just one second of silence lol.

My 17mo says lots of words in 3 different languages (trilingual household) and started using 2 words sentences. BUT she refuses to eat and she wakes up every 2 hours at night to nurse. Every kid is different and they all develop different things at different times. You’re baby is doing great!

My daughter says quite a bit compared to my son at 17 months. Some kids (my son) take a lot longer. My son is now 3.5 and finally is talking more clear and way better than ever. Here are a few words my daughter can say that I can think of off the top of my head: mama, dada, bub, dog, ball, poopoo, papa, nana, baba, hi, bye, moo moo, baby, bath, and she makes some animal noises. She is very smart and can show me where certain body parts are when asked. I’m shocked cuz my son is total opposite.

My little boy is 17 months and is not speaking many recognisable words. He babbles a lot, and can do animal noises etc but really only says hi, dada, doggie, oh but can say chicken really well 😂 (he’s obsessed with chickens!) he also still refuses to walk unaided even though he is fully able 🤷‍♀️

She loves to mimic songs. She actually talks more then her brother did at her age.

She will 17 months on the 25th and says: no, yeah, yes, mama, dada, book, ball, up, out, this, that, please, bath. Signs: please, milk, more, eat, all done, working on thank you and water. She does understand more than she says... brought me and daddy oir shoes, her shoes and jacket then pointed to the door to tell us to take her to play lol

My son is now learning 2 words together so when he wants to be picked up he says ‘up please’ he also has soooo many words Iv lost count. However I work in a nursery and some of our 2 year olds don’t speak as much as my son, every child is different, if she’s signing too she’s obviously learning a few things at once. Honestly some children ate late talkers but are more focused on physical, maths etc so we don’t worry. 
My health visitor asked me if he says more than 10 words and that’s the guideline for a 16 month old he was at the time. By the time they are 2 it should be 50ish words and 2/3 words together xx
