When did baby stop using high chair

Question

At what age did your baby stop using a high chair? My son is 17 months and just started walking. I noticed he doesn’t like the high chair anymore and he’d rather eat while he’s sitting on the bed or while he’s walking around playing. Is that ok ? He won’t sit on a regular chair either or even a little floor chair that we got him.

My daughter is almost 2 and I still occasionally put her in her high chair. It really just depends on what she’s eating. If it’s finger foods I’m more open to letting her eat where ever because she’s more likely to actually eat in that case but if it’s something messy, like pasta - she gets strapped in. I want to contain the mess as much as possible lol but she’s not in an actual high chair anymore. She hasn’t been since she was a year old. I got rid of the bulky high chair and got a booster seat for the kitchen table so she can eat at the table with the rest of the family.

We have a chair that grows with the child. But some time between 1.5 and 2 we took the safety rail of and she climbed the chair on her own.

A lot of kids like to graze and eat. We let our kids do this but when they got worse with it, we strapped them back in

Babe should not eat while walking around. That’s a big choking hazard. 
Look into a booster seat. Try having him sit on your lap at the table. A helper stool would be a good options as well.
My daughter didn’t care for her high chair nor did we always have an option of one around age 14/15m. She would sit in our lap, in a bar stool with a back (basically a high chair without straps), on the table, or on the floor (picnic style). Around 18m my brother gifted us a helper stool to match his daughters, lol, and she’s uses just that now. Complete game changer. She gets to stand and wiggle at the table. She knows food has to stay at the table but she doesn’t have to. The helper stool is awesome too because we involve her in cooking every day. 
While it’s best to use a high chair as long as possible, some kids are wiggly and high chairs will actually create a negative association with food. This can lead to picky eating.

We switched to a small toddler table and chair at 18 months so she could get in and out on her own. At that age, she didnt like sitting in the chair either, but we just had the rule that food doesnt leave the kitchen so was often walking/playing in the kitchen while eating

Sitting at the table with feet supported is the safest way for anyone to eat. We don’t allow eating anywhere but at the table, in the high chair (we have a Stokke Tripp Trapp that can be used from birth to adulthood). I know this isn’t practical for everyone, but it’s worked well for us! My daughter is 2.5y and knows she isn’t allowed to eat anywhere but in her chair.
