What’s your opinion on sleep training methods for babies?

My hot take is that not having to sleep train is a privilege. I went back to work when my son was 4 months old. My husband is In the army he is gone a lot. I felt half dead 24/7 and on the edge of being thrown into a mental hospital from sleep deprivation. Finally when our son was 8 months I quit breastfeeding and we sleep trained. It was the best decision and all of us get more sleep including the baby,

I believe sleep training is unnatural and traumatic to children. Babies cannot self soothe until the earliest 18 months. The only reason people say "sleep training" is working is because the babies literally get so stressed out and traumatized their body goes into survival mode and puts them to sleep to conserve energy. Youre not "teaching your baby" anything. Youre traumatizing them.

I always tell myself, how wild, scary and overwhelming the world must be for a baby or small toddler. So if all my babies need is to be held to feel safe again I can't blame them.
My oldest was rocked to sleep until 10 months and then she just didn't fall asleep like that anymore.
My youngest is nearly ten months and usually falls asleep with a bottle actually but can also easily fall asleep on her own in her bed. But I'll gladly hold her if she needs it.
So I haven't tried it. Haven't found it necessary either.

I don’t believe it’s necessary. It’s usually for the parents convenience, schedule, their sleep needs etc.  
Babies are not meant to soothe themselves or do things themselves; we seem to understand this in every capacity like feeding, bathing, eating, diapering but sleep we expect them to know how. Sleep is a biological need and eventually they will develop the ability to sleep and stay asleep on their own. Intervention is not necessary 😊

I think it’s unnecessary because sleep is developmental. They will go to sleep on their own & sleep through the night on their own time. For my daughter it took until she was 14 months. For my son, 10 months.

I did extensive reading on the research behind sleep training and decided I would not do any form of sleep training. It is something I’m pretty adamantly against now and wouldn’t do or recommend to others. It meant my now toddler needed extra support during the night, but we adjusted around that and it hasn’t ever been a problem. It helped greatly to understand the developmental process behind brain development, self soothing, and sleep patterns as well as the affect of popular sleep training practices in the developing brain. 
I found Dr Kristyn Summer a good resource for learning about all of this.

It’s abuse. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s abuse. You’re neglecting your child’s needs, forcing them to do something they’re not comfortable with, it’s manipulation. Feed on demand, sleep on demand. They can and will make their own schedule and you don’t need to stress them out and cause emotional distress.

I tried not to with my first, finally he turned 9 or 10 months and was still waking multiple times per night. We were both working full time, we hardly had any rest or marital life at that point, so we did gentle sleep training and it made a huge difference in our quality of lives (including baby, his behavior and mood improved)

Its not ‘necessary’ but it can massively help if your baby doesn’t know how to self settle
We used the ferber method from about 4-5 months with our first son and it worked sell and I intend to do the same this time round if needed

I didn’t find it necessary. Baby “weaned” himself. I rocked him to sleep until he turned 8 months and then he didn’t want to be held anymore right before bed and wanted to lay by himself but next to me to fall asleep, and then I’d transfer him to the crib, and that evolved into just putting him in the crib and he went to sleep himself.
