How does it take your baby to fall asleep independently?

From putting your baby in the cot awake to them falling alseep on their own, how long does it take? I've heard if they take less than 5min they are severely overtired, is this true?

It really depends on babies mood. If they are super over tired babies tend to fight sleep, not fall asleep on their own.

What age are we talking about here? 
My 19 month old can fall asleep within minutes for his day time nap and then take up to half hour at night 🤷🏻‍♀️ I expect everyone’s answers are going to be very different

My baby used to NOT fall asleep independently lol. We did lots of co sleeping and helping to sleep and feeding to sleep and etc. but we made it through and now she goes from happy playing to asleep in 30 seconds and she’s definitely not overtired.

And you really really don’t want to put babe asleep overtired. Overtired children can take longer to fall asleep, wake more frequently overnight, and wake up earlier. 
My 7m old can self soothe most of the time and it can take anywhere from 5-20 mins depending on how talkative he is or if he’s enjoying chewing on his hands. 
My 21m old can take anywhere from 5-20 mins also depending on her mood and if she’s enjoying her books in bed.
