Slapping and hitting stage, until when?

20 months old son. Slaps us specially when we are talking or talking to somebody else. Gentle parenting and I slap his hand back gently every time he does it and explain. But he does it again and again. Please help.

My son use to do this he is 14 months and I tell him No don’t hit moma that’s not nice and tap him back!! He has slowed down now!!

Don’t smack back. It literally shows the kid like oh I can’t smack but you can? No def not. Tell him no, etc

Tell him something like “gentle hands” and model that. Hitting is a completely normal developmental thing. If you want it to stop, you have to patiently teach that. And it will take some time. But with consistency it will stop.

You even hitting your kid bk makes it a game to him and he thinks it's ok. Tell your child that is a no no and redirect their attention to something else.
