Why are some men are so evil?

I use to be friends with this guy and then he started telling me he had feelings for me for like a year without me knowing but I never seen him in that way I gave him a chance since we were friends before and I trusted him but he did a whole 360 on me. I’m so broken cuz why are people so evil!!!
