I really like anal sex but like using butt plugs even more. Definitely work your way up to it. If your bf is comfortable with it you can start with him fingering you, then try some butt plugs and then try anal sex. Definitely use lots of lube and take it slow and communicate!!! Loads of lube, coconut oil highly recommended (from experience). Tell him to use a small butt plug, thumb to relax you a little and don’t just shove it up, as it will hurt. You need to mentally relax.

I used to think it was way too painful to ever do, but using small anal plugs regularly and prepping my body with a bigger plug makes anal enjoyable for me, surprisingly. Lots of lube always.
