Mom doesn't want my husband at family bbq

My husband and I have been together since college and my family has never liked him. They didn't even want to come to our wedding. My parents still did but ruined it by complaining about everything. My family has an end of the summer bbq and my mom is already planning. She however asked me not to bring my husband because she's upset about the 4th of July. My mom and dad felt offended that my husband brought his own dish and didn't eat any of the food they bought besides some fruits. My husband brought his own dish because he's mainly vegetarian for health reasons. His body doesn't do great with meat. My parents know he doesn't really eat meat but never have anything for him to eat there so he will end up eating meat and getting sick. So because of that my mom doesn't want her there. I find that so unreasonable.

Edit: They don't like him because he's just not their definition of a "man". They wanted me to be with a strong man who could provide for men and protect me. My husband is a shy and quiet person and they take him being quiet as being rude. They don't like that I have to work because my husband is on a teachers salary. They don't like that he didn't get his drivers license until he was 25. It's not really anything my husband did.
