There is a sky full of stars

Floating orbs of bright light

Yet we turn the other way avoiding the night

Don't try to pretend as though they're not there

Act like you don't slow down for a second to stare

You might see monsters but I promise they're stars

Beautiful people whose hearts have been scarred

Masterpieces of art, De Vinci and Van Gogh

So put down your arrows and lower your bows

Just drowning in darkness no sense of direction

Starved of genuine affirmation and affection

Their shell may seem rigid but don't be naive

The last thing they want is for you to walk away, to leave

Dare to call them weak, broken, and lost

Treating them like a project to fix with too large of a cost

All stars are bound to burn out

Burst or explode

Into billions of pieces as their lives begin to implode

Addiction is a shadow that can shrink and can grow

That thrives on the unspoken words, feelings, and memories that we try to stow

So open your eyes and release your balloons of ignorance

Tear down the walls and demolish your fence

Little do you know your life is a sky full of stars

Be careful to keep them close before their addiction carries them out too far.

Do you know a star who is soon to burn out

Burst or explode?

A star whose hearts weighs heavy and can no longer handle the load?

This is just a little poem about addiction (In all sizes and forms!)
