How did you overcome breastfeeding challenges?

Hey there, warrior mamas! We all know that breastfeeding can come with its fair share of challenges. Share your stories of how you overcame breastfeeding difficulties and offer some words of encouragement to other moms who might be facing similar struggles.

My son got stuck and was born with a big bump on the back of his head. He couldn’t latch in the hospital and started to lose weight. I pumped in the hospital and eventually cup fed him in the hospital to help him gain enough weight back to be released. I used nipple shield to extend my nipples until his bump healed. It was hard 3 weeks until he eventually was able to latch. I was lucky to that he could go from the nipple to a bottle and back with no problem. Through it all, I continue to bump and freeze milk to keep my supply up. I make muffins with breweries yeast and flaxseed to help with production or the lactation cookie mix you can buy. Hoarding milk saved me to make it 10 months with only breast milk, eventually my work schedule got in the way of bumping and I lost my supply.

Breastfed both my kiddos, planning to nurse this one too. Talk to lactation consultant while at the hospital if available. Insist on skin-to-skin first thing if baby's condition allows for it. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask for help if it's not working or if it hurts--I had to get prescription custom mixed cream with my first because my nipples were so raw they started bleeding (and then I was freaking out because there was blood in his poop). That cream (prescribed by a nurse who was also a lactation consultant) is the only thing that allowed me to continue to breastfeed, and I had to use it with my second again. It's a combination of a topical pain killer, antifungals, and antibiotics.

I’ve breastfed both my other children and plan to with this baby. You just have to be determined even when it hurts and so sore push through. Use nipple cream and ice packs to help with the soreness. Those first 2 weeks are tough but if you can make it through you got it 💗

Tried to breastfeed my son but he was tongue tied and it was so sore and he wasn’t getting enough milk, then refused to latch after a week of formula (had it cut at 1 week old)
