What is the appropriate and nice thing to do for someone when their loved one passed away? One of our employees’ little brother passed away recently and we would like to do something nice for her. Send money? Flowers?

Flowers and a card, maybe a meal service or gift card for take out. Any gesture is nice and anything that takes something off their plate is great.

Meal deliveries or food cards are great. But for meals try to keep it to things like basic Italian food or pollo tropical catering type places, things that most people like and can be easily warmed up. I had a medical crisis and kind and thoughtful people brought us homecooked unusual foods that just wasnt our taste and our kids wouldnt touch it, I felt so bad!  Flowers depends on their culture, in mine, flowers are only for celebratory occasions and arent used during deaths. A housecleaning voucher can be great too.

I’d look at the obit before sending flowers.  Many request in lieu of flowers donations be made to a favorite charity or organization of the deceased.  
Meals are always a great idea but you may want to consider gift cards to restaurants or grub hub, door dash, etc.  Food is a go to but several friends of mine who have lost loved ones recently have mentioned they don’t particularly enjoy seeing their fridges and freezers crammed with well intentioned food that they will never get through and be reminded of why they have them every time they open the doors.

I agree with people saying a meal. That is very helpful. Flowers can be nice too, but they die… maybe a potted plant instead. I had a friend bring me some nice whiskey, she asked what I wanted.

I would offer their family a meal or multiple meals so they don’t have to bother thinking about it during this time + a sympathy card. This is what I do anyway
