I recommend having at least 6m of tracking bbt and opk. 
Read this book

Know the statistics.
My aunt got pregnant twice from FAM. She followed it to the T and was very diligent. She just happened to ovulate early and bam, a baby. 
I have never and don’t plan to do FAM. The fail rate wasn’t worth it to me and obsessively tracking is exhausting. I tracked religiously when ttc and it was a lot. Plus, the constant worry if you period lags.

I have been using it since I got married and so far so good! I use ovulation test strips that measure LH hormone to predict my ovulation. This app works well with them, you can log your test results and its very convenient. I purchase the "easy at home" ovulation test strips but I use this app and not the app of the company that sells the strips. I have done a lot of reading in the scientific literature about how long the egg is viable for after ovulation, and from that my rule of thumb is 48 hours from my first positive LH test, it is safe to have sex.

I will never use it. I’ve only heard of people getting pregnant by surprise. No one ever escapes it.
