Home birth or hospital birth: What made you decide?

Hi lovely ladies! I'm torn between having a home birth or a hospital birth. For those who have already made this decision, what were the factors that influenced you? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

I personally know 3 people who have had babies die from complications while giving birth at home and not being able to get to thr hospital in time. My Mom even lost her best friend to massive hemorrhaging during her home birth. I would never choose a home birth. I can't put myself or my babies at risk like that. Had I been at home with either of my children there would have been problems. A midwife woildn't have been able to handle my extensive tearing with my oldest or been able to preform the interventions I needed to have my baby. I needed emergency inductions both times. A midwife straight up would have been my death with my youngest. I had massive hemorrhaging and needed an emergency operation right there in the labor room to save my life. I would have died before I got to the nearest hospital an hour and a half away. You never know what is going to happen, and I can't put my babies at risk like that.

I’ve done three home births. SO magical & intimate & empowering! Also extremely comfortable. There are soooo many pros to it. Just make sure to find a good midwife!

I’ve had both and will choose a Homebirth every single time.  It’s magical, and personal, comfortable.  While complications happen and they certainly have for us, choosing a midwife team you trust is key.  We will be having a home birth for our 3rd baby 🥰

I am going to a hospital so that if something goes wrong there are experts and surgery equipment right by my side. But I found an obstetrician who understands my preference for a low intervention birth, so that I won’t be pressured into intervention where it’s not needed.

For me it’s hospital all the way. When I was born, I would’ve died 3x over if my mom wasn’t in a hospital. I’m actually going to be delivering at the same hospital I was born at.

Nothing wrong with a home north but I prefer hospital birth in case of an emergency and consideration of the epidural or other pain management if you can’t tolerate it .
