Pumping takes so long

So I’ve had my flanges sized, switch from stimulation to expression mode, compress my breasts, use a hands free bra. Still it takes 40mins to drain breasts and at least. 8 mins for a real let down. Last baby I exclusively pumped had the same experience. I pump three times a day now get between 20-26 oz. This takes an hour each now and let downs take 10-15mins. Noticing that my left nipple is much more elastic now and stretches the whole length of the flange. Used the inserts but still doesn’t release milk. Anyone similar? Help?? Would love to pump in just 20 minutes like everyone else 😩

I massage and squeeze when pumping to help speed things up, it works well.

I find a bigger flange than I’m supposed to use helps me. I’m technically a 17, but I use a 19 or 20. My first baby I could pump 6 oz per side in 10 mins. This baby I barely get 4 oz total in 20 mins it’s crazy frustrating. I have no idea why the difference. I do also find that I get more and a faster let down if I sit and tilt the bottle away from my body. If the flanges are just hanging off my boobs I get almost nothing at all, so I hook ‘em up, turn my pump on and then hold the bottles away from my body just the tiniest bit. I’m not pressing them into my breast at all, but it changes how it pulls on my nipple and it makes a huge difference. I also switch back to stimulation mode when the drops slow to get a second, third and sometimes fourth let down.

It took 30m to empty me when I EP'd. It was frustrating as I really wanted to be one of those 15-20m people. I also did all the things; messed with the settings, resized myself multiple times, added massage and heat. Nothing ever worked. Ive read that sometikes you can turn the pump off for 5 or so mins and then turn it back on to trigger an earlier let down. Kind of like a power pump session but not a power pump. Never tried it myself so i cant speak to it. Have you looked on Reddit at all? They have an Exclusive Pumping subreddit that is amazing. You may be able to find a hack there.

Pumping can be a time-consuming process for many women, and it's not uncommon for it to take longer than expected. It sounds like you've already taken several steps to optimize your pumping sessions, such as using the correct flange size, switching modes, and using a hands-free bra. It's great that you're getting a good amount of milk output, but if you're looking to shorten the duration, you could try a few additional techniques. Some women find that massaging their breasts before and during pumping can help stimulate letdown and increase milk flow. You could also experiment with different suction levels and speeds on your pump to see if that makes a difference. Remember, every woman's body is different, so what works for others may not work for you. Hang in there, and don't hesitate to reach out to a lactation consultant for personalized advice.
