If you’ve been with boyfriend 5 years, would you bring up marriage?

I’ve been with my boyfriend for five years, and he has never told me he wants to marry me or has proposed to me. Neither has the topic of having children in the future. When is being in a relationship too long? I don’t want to be with him 10 + years and then end up not ever getting proposed to and then have wasted all this time. Also I’m 25. I know I’m fairly young, but I don’t want to be 30 and never get proposed to, and then have to start all over again.

I think my husband and I talked about marriage within a few months of starting to date, not like let’s get married now but more like what do we want out of a relationship. I think if you haven’t even talked about marriage after 5 years it’s a bit worrisome if that is what you are wanting. My husband proposed after 2 years and we got married a year later. I would start bringing it up and if he sort of brushes it off I’d give him an ultimatum. I wouldn’t want to invest all that time in someone who doesn’t want the same things as me in life.

That conversation is long over due.. i know i had that talk of marriage early on.. it matters to both of us.. we decided we wanted children after 2 years.. if u don't have the talk.. ur not moving forward.. especially if it's important to u.

Those conversations are LONG overdue. My husband and I have been together since we were 15 and only dated for marriage so we brought up marriage and kids around 6 months. We weren't going to waste time on anyone who didn't align with our values. We were married on our 7th anniversary when we were 22, but the timeline makes sense because we had just turned 15 when we got together. Even had we met in our 20s I wouldn't waste a lot of time not knowing if the person I was interested in didn't want the same things.

Id say talk about both things and if he does not want those things then its probably better to move on i told my husband I wanted to get married and have kids early on so i am not wasting my time on someone that doesn't want what i want but he proposed 2 years and 3 months of dating and got married in 2020 and 6 months later got pregnant and had are first child

Yes. I was bringing it up by 2 yrs. 5 yrs there needs to be a discussion about it whether to stay or go.
