Help (Insulin resistance and muscle inflammation
Long post sorry! Hi everyone! I could really use some help/advice. Here’s some back story and what’s happening. I’ve been overweight for the last probably 12 years. Gaining and gaining steadily. My highest recorded weight was in April of 2023 at 358lbs. On July 28, 2023 I finally had my appointment with a board certified weight loss doctor. He confirmed I have insulin resistance, pre-diabetes and most likely PCOS. My a1c usually comes back around 5.9%-6.0%. I spent about 8 years in bed and when I wasn’t in bed, I was up eating and then heading back to bed. Even eating in bed. I had severe depression and mental health issues. I eventually stopped working. Then 4 years ago I lost my drivers license after falling asleep at the wheel and totalling my car and it was not the first time. I was then diagnosed with narcolepsy. Fast forward a little to 2021. I was starting to get myself together, and also met my now fiancé. I’ve worked hard over the past two years. I move out of my parents and my fiancé and I got a place together. I finally got my license back and got a new car in August. I haven’t worked in so long that I thought I’d ease into a job by cashiering at a grocery store I worked at as a teenager part time (worked in animal shelters and vet clinics after that for a long time). To back up a little I weighed in at 350lbs at my weight loss appointment in July. I started my diet changes on 7/31/23. I cut carbs, (can have 40g a day) starches and sugars. I increased my water intake. I was the carb queen and had a massive sweet tooth. It was crazy to cut eveything and I honestly thought I’d fail the first week. It was opposite. 6 weeks in and down 35lbs and feeling great. My a1c was even down below the pre-diabetic range at 5.1%. That week I got down to the 35lb loss, I started working. I immediately gained 8lbs my first two-three days of work. When I finally had a day off, I lost 5lbs the next day. My feet are in excruciating pain every shift (I come home and just bawl my eyes out from the pain) and my body is beat. I’m not used to lifting, twisting, moving and standing so much anymore. It seems like I have muscle inflammation which causes water retention which both cause weight gain. I started water pills and that’s helping lessen the pain and swelling in my feet and legs, but I’m still up 5-8lbs at any given time. I had gotten down to 315 and now I hover around 320. It’s so depressing as it’s been going on for about 4 weeks ☹️ I know this was a long post, but has anyone else had this happen? How can I relieve the inflammation, water and pain? How do I get the scale moving again? I got engaged last week and I don’t even want to think about getting married looking like this. I’m also 34 already and we want a baby soon, but I need to get all this weight off. We had a couple accidental pregnancies that ended in miscarriages most likely due to my weight.
