Hysterectomy or not?

Hi! I am a 26 year old. Mom of one child who is autistic, my pregnancy with him was hard. I bled through out and didn't think i would carry to full term but did! That was 7 years ago. I wanted another. I struggled with fertility and hard long periods my whole life. I have had two miscarriages, one being a set of twins. My periods are wack and i hate birth control as it affects my moods and migraines in a negative way. I have been thinking about a hysterectomy (just taking out my uterus). I want to be done with having kids and periods all together. I guess i am just wondering what other peoples thoughts are? It would be nice to get some outside opinions.

First off, I am sorry for your losses. I personally think 26 is too young to make such a permanent decision. So much could happen for you in the next 10 years. Has your desire for another child truly gone away?

When did a hysterectomy become the go to for sterilization or period control?
Removing body parts has serious consequences. 
Get an iud. Use condoms.

I think removing your uterus is a bit extreme. I understand periods are annoying and can come with terrible symptoms for some people, but removing your uterus can also come with undesirable symptoms. If you don’t want anymore children, I’d say removing your tubes makes more sense. But I’m not you and I’m not a doctor so there’s that’s.

First off sorry for your losses. 
But this is not an option. No doctor will do a hysterectomy without true medical reason. And also being under 35. It’s not ethical for a dr to do that. 
Get your tubes tied, different form of birth control or something. Not a major surgery that can effect your entire body.

I’m with you in so many ways except I’m older. Fertility issues and periods that significant decrease the quality of my life every month. And also have cause life long severe anemia I have to get treated regularly. I have also contemplated this decision. My aunt had something done. I think it was called an ablation. They scar the inside of the uterus with a laser or something. She said it was painless and recovery was super easy. She doesn’t get periods anymore and it is birth control too. I’m finally over 20 weeks pregnant and also have one more embryo to transfer after this one but I will be asking about this after I’m done because I want freedom from the constant suffering. You are very young so it might be hard to get a doctor to do anything but you can always find out if there are other alternatives to a hysterectomy. My mom and my oma had that and did really well with it, said it was great but I also know it can have a lot of side effects that I am not ready for. Good luck

Removing your uterus does not stop the hormonal cycle that controls menstruation. You'll still experience a lot of the symptoms without the bleeding. Talk to your doctor about other options.

Surgical menopause is no joke. I saw my mom go through it. I would not  consider a hysterectomy unless it was medically required. My periods are heavy & painful. I’m working with a registered dietitian that specializes in hormonal health.

Hell to the no! That is not a quick fix for your body. My advice is to get off the birth control, it will take awhile to feel back to normal but you will feel better with so much relief. You can track your cycle on here you only have to be careful a few days a month when you're ovulating

It's unlikely. Most doctors will not preform a hysterectomy at all unless there is a true medical need. If you're looking for a permanent solution I would look into a tubal litigation. Specifically where the maximum about of fallopian tube possible is removed. I'm 26 on my 4th pregnancy and 3rd baby and I'll also be getting one along with my husband getting a vesectomy. I don't want any more children and I refuse to have children over the age of 27.
