upper lip tie?

wondering if any mamas had a little one diagnosed with an upper lip tie? i was exclusively breastfeeding, and baby was latching well but not transferring milk the best and therefore lost 10% of his birthweight and didn't start gaining when they expected him to.. so i began pumping and bottle feeding. he gained weight on my milk but introducing the bottles caused issues with latching (of course🙄). so now i've just been exclusively pumping and bottle feeding. i had seen two lactation consultants and baby's pediatrician and no one said anything about it.. but i wonder if he has an upper lip tie? it kind of looks like it but i'm no expert. 
what symptoms did your little one have? did correcting it help?

Yes, that looks like a lip tie. My son had an upper lip tie and a tongue tie. Thankfully it was found right after birth and we were referred to a pediatric dentist within a few days. He had laser surgery on both of them at 10 days old. The ties were making it difficult for him to nurse and also were making the nursing very painful for me because he was biting hard trying to maintain a latch. As soon as the ties were fixed, he was immediately able to nurse better within minutes of the surgery. It was less painful for me as well. After that, he developed a proper latch. He is now almost 6 months old and is fat and healthy on breast milk alone. He takes bottles of expressed milk during the day while I work and nurses when I'm home. I use the Lansinoh brand of bottles because they are less likely to cause issues switching between breast and bottle.

not sure if all babies lips look like this.. when i move my finger over it it feels soft and flexible.. not like stiff or thick skin

This is exactly what happened with my LO! He had "very minor" upper lip and tongue ties. No one even noticed them until I pushed the issue when he was 10 weeks old. Got them clipped and he hasn't had a BF or weight problem since!

Ties can absolutely be the cause and you need to seek out the help of a pediatric dentist who specializes in oral ties. Many pediatricians are not trained in ties despite ties being very common. Functionality is more important than looks. Some need to be corrected sooner rather than later and others can have a wait and see approach. My son's lip and tongue tie was so bad if we didn't have him revised he wouldn't have been able to eat solid food of any kind or speak properly. So we had him done at 5 months old.

Both of my kids have lip ties and tounge ties. Our youngest got her tounge tie done, but will need a corrective surgery in the future. We're waiting until our kids are a bit older to get all of their ties corrected so they'll understand why I have to pin them down and put them through a lot of pain. Taking care of any tie fucking sucks. You have to press on the incision, stretch the area, and make sure the incision doesn't get infected or scar too badly. Our youngest struggles with certian foods, open cups, and a few other things. She's learned to deal with straws, but has to use her tounge wrapped around it to use them. The lip tie creates some issues since hers is so severe, but my oldest's ties affect her speech a bit.
