methotrexate shot and hcg numbers?

Just found out our first iui attempt after 16 months TTC is ectopic 😞 it was caught early enough that I got the methotrexate shot to try and get rid of it. Did anyone get the shot and have success? How long did it take for your hcg numbers to drop?

Answer

I had to get 2 rounds of methotrexate because my hcg was still rising after the first. The second round worked and my hcg eventually went back under 5 though it did take about a month for that to happen. I waited the 3 months my doctor recommended, plus one more because my husband was away during my ovulation period that month. I also had a HSG test done befire trying again to check that my tubes were good and open because they discovered dirong laparoscopic surgery that I have endometriosis. I was able to conceive again the first month trying which was a big shock because it took me nearly 2 years to conceive that ectopic pregnancy. Im now 24 weeks with my rainbow baby and he is totally healthy! So yes you can absolutely conceive a healthy baby agter the methotrexate (just wait those 3 months to make sure your body and build up folate again).

Answer

I had to have 2 doses 2 weeks apart, but it did the trick. It look about 5 weeks from the first shot to my numbers hitting zero. 
You have to wait 3 months after the shot to start trying again. Methotrexate depletes your body of folate so if you get pregnant too soon after, you’re at higher risk of birth defects. 
I got pregnant with my daughter our second month back trying. She’s 2.5 now. With my first ultrasound they confirmed I had ovulated on the same side my ectopic had been on, so I’m so so thankful methotrexate worked and I didn’t lose my tube!
