Ex wants to say goodbye

My ex of 8 years has been texting me asking me to see him and say goodbye before he leaves to his job in Georgia/DC forever in less than a week. What I don’t understand is why If he treated me like shit for the 8 years I was with him… why would he want this? I will not see him, I would just like to know why.

Long story short, I was with him for 8 years on and off and he always kept cheating, lying, leaving me for other girls, sleep around and etc. He would then look for me and ask for another chance and I would give them to him thinking he’d change. This last time in may he cheated again and I finally had the courage to leave and days later he got into a relationship with another girl and was still texting me while being with her which led them to break up. So see it’s been hell with him. I don’t understand the logic behind him wanting to say goodbye if he never treated me the way I deserved. Could someone answer that for me based on any similar experiences you may have had?I will not ask him.
