Some advice please
I hope this is the right spot for it but here goes. Also please bare with me, this is going to be lengthy
Earlier this year I went to the er with horrendous stomach pain, turned out to be appendicitis. I was admitted to the hospital in the early morning hours and had surgery a few hours later, however I discovered some clinical notes from the surgeon and some details are not adding up.
According to the reports from back when I had appendicitis it states that the surgeon consulted with me while my dad was present and talked about having surgery vs medical therapy and that i was leaning towards an appendectomy. It also states that we both voiced excellent understanding about the risks of the surgery etc etc
HOWEVER
-I don’t recall consulting with the surgeon (only remember talking with the anesthesiologist)
-i also wasn’t really kept in the loop of what was happening. We basically went from you’re getting admitted to the hospital and will start you on antibiotics to you’re getting surgery whether you like it or not
-i also have no memory of explicitly saying I was fine with the surgery
-my headspace was also a bit altered because I was high af on narcotic pain meds and had gotten no sleep (I spent the whole night at the er and was admitted in the early hours)
Also my dad came back to the hospital around 9am? And I was taken down to preop an hour later
My memory of the whole experience is pretty hazy but I would remember having a conversation with my surgeon beforehand. Could this be malpractice? It wasn’t necessarily an immediate life or death situation as the appendicitis just began the previous day and hadn’t burst. I decided to book another appointment with that surgeon to dig for some more details because something isn’t sitting right with me.
