How should I leave a job I like for one with better pay and opportunities?
I am graduating in December with my Master's degree in counseling and have been working full time throughout my program. I work at a non profit so raises and advancement are not really something we do unless we get a grant to support it. I've been here for 2 years. My supervisor is flexible and will let me leave early, take time off last minute if something happens, and has even worked with me to let me do my internship there. The type of work is okay, not something I would want to do for the entirety of my career though but it's growing on me.
Since I will be getting a Master's degree I would like to explore new opportunities in the area (what I'm doing is vocational work so it fits). I'm married and my husband works full time as well, but after looking at finances, it would be best to move to something with better pay with advancement opportunities and better benefits especially when it comes to having kids. One of my biggest issues is that I feel bad for leaving since the office location I work in is just me and the executive director and we're already having trouble replacing two other employees that left (there are maybe 10 of us total). I also know that I won't get the flexibility and the work environment that I have anywhere else.
So the question is: stay where I am for now and deal with it, discuss a raise with my supervisor (not likely since we're a non profit), or work until I find something else?
