Crib or Play Yard

So I’m debating on which one to get. I’m going to be eventually traveling with my baby since my family is 4hrs away from me. And I am going to be a first time mom and I hear about how first time parents always buy more than needed 😅. I wanna minimize the unnecessary spending. I was leaning more towards the play yard with the bassinet changing section to be the standard bed for the baby? Any suggestions and recommendations? What did you do with your first born?
