My manager offered me a lead position today and told me to "name a price"
Really in need of some advice on an opportunity I was presented with just this morning!! Kind of a long post.
I have been an esthetician for just under a year and I currently work part time at a salon/spa and part time at another job that I've been at for years. I stayed at my medical job because It pays a lot more (26/hr) and I NEED that money to pay my bills. The salon/spa I work at pays me 16/hr + tips.
When I started here there were 4 estheticians. They have all left for personal reasons and I am the ONLY esthetician left. My boss called me this morning and said that they love having me and they want me to pick a dollar amount that would allow me to leave my medical job and go to full time with them.
They will be promoting me to spa lead and I will be training the girl that will be starting in January, and presumably anyone else that starts in the future, and I will be responsible for making decisions for the spa, inventory, etc. I LOVE working here, my bosses are amazing, lots of training opportunities, and I would love to be full time, the only issue is money.
So....when I did the math out the MINIMUM that I could accept to drop my other job and go full time would be 23/hr. Some people are telling me asking for 23 might be pushing it, some people are telling me im under selling and I should ask for 30 or 35/hr. I dont want to sell myself short and miss out on a chance to make much more money, but at the same time I have less than a year of experience and im still building my clientele. How much do you think I could REASONABLY ask for? Thanks!!!
